A 30 minutes’
drive away from the Accra Mall stands the plush Champs Sports Bar and Grill, inside
Paloma Hotel Complex on the Ring Road. My Friday night inside Champs begun with
mixed feelings. Anxious to have a feel of their flagship show Happy Hour, I arrived
at the venue at 7pm only to meet an almost empty bar. I thought I had chosen
the wrong chill out spot after a tiring week but it was just a camouflage of
what I was about to experience in the next few hours.
With my cash
slips which I received after paying the gate fee, I ordered my first of many
chilled glasses of drink from the waitresses, who were always on the alert to
serve patrons. The venue, whose ceiling was clad in the colours of the
countries that were at the mundial, came to live at the struck of 9pm.Trust me the
night looked much better than I expected.

Before
midnight, the teeming patrons were already poised for a good jam, and yes we
all did get a great jam. With the non-ignorable mixes that came from the DJ’s
booth I could just not remain glued to my seat till the break of morning. For
those who did not want to dance the night away, they had the pool tables and
other available games to keep them company.
The popular
Accra hangout spot, which attracts a sizeable number of expats, was just the
best place for the Hangout Master. You should try pass by Champs sometime soon.
